Media
Hits…
Vintage Guitar singled
out Interconnection by
Bob Sneider & Paul Hofmann for its Hit
List. John Heidt writes: "As
a reviewer, you sometimes run across records
and players that just kind of make you sigh
and realize there's so much guitar that you
know nothing about. This is one of those.
Their take on "Desafinado" should
rank as one of the best covers of that old
warhorse. Both players solo brilliantly and
meet in the middle for a unison flourish
that will leave you smiling and shaking
your head. Duo work is nothing new
in this setting. In the past couple of years,
Benny Green and Russell Malone have done
a couple of fine records. Then there's Jim
Hall and Bill Evans' Undercurrent and Intermodulation (which
this record obviously tips its cap to, given
its title). Interconnection must
be placed with those records. It's an impressive,
extremely listenable piece of work."
The
bi-monthly audio CD partner of Utne magazine, InRadio:
Out Of The Mainstream, included "Koi-no
Vacance" by Akira Tana from Moon
Over The World on the promotional
CD for its July/August 2004 issue. InRadio creates
a network of support for great independent
artists, and its mission is to renew media's
role as a force for change by connecting
its community of listeners with independent
ideas, music and each other. Thanks to Ben
Goldfarb for his support of our release.

Gigs…
Jay Leonhart performs twice
on Thursday, August 19th, at the J&R
JazzFest in New York City. He performs
for the lunchtime crowd in the Music World
store on the second floor, at 12:30PM, in
support of his Sons of Sound releases, Galaxies
and Planets, Rodgers & Leonhart,
and the forthcoming Cool. Outside
in Bryant Park, Mr. Leonhart and frequent
Sons of Sound guest artist Ted Rosenthal
(piano) will appear in support of acclaimed
vocalist Ann Hampton Callaway. The group
may also be seen during the RNC at the Oak
Room of The Algonquin on West 44th Street.
One
of the greatest duos in jazz, Gene
Bertoncini and Michael Moore, will perform
for three nights at the Jazz
Standard, Friday through Sunday, August
20-22. Says The Standard: "If you're
seeking elegance and finesse in jazz, you'll
find them in the 10 strings of Gene Bertoncini
and Michael Moore. Together, Bertoncini,
a master of the classical, six-string guitar,
with the lyrical four strings of Moore’s
upright bass, have established them as one
of the most elegant duos in jazz, working
as one to create lovely melodies and textures
while swinging with sophisticated ease."
The Andy
Parsons Quartet will appear in Brooklyn
on Wednesday, August 18th, for two sets. Café 111,
at 111 Court Street, is the new Brooklyn
home for creative jazz, Brooklyn's best
no-cover Jazz cafe and bar, with great
acoustics. |
