Ray
Marchica is one of the most diverse drummers in New York City. He is
the leader of his own group, and freelances in all different types
of settings. Ray is a graduate of Brooklyn College where he studied
percussion with Morris Lang and received a Bachelor of Science Degree
in Music Performance.
Ray has recorded with James Brown, Little Richard, Dan Hartman, and
Earl Klugh, and has toured with guitar greats Roy Buchanan and Johnny
Winter. He was the drummer on The Rosie O’Donnell Show for it’s
entire six-year run, where he performed with Phil Collins, Tony Bennett,
Bette Midler, Cher, Marc Anthony, Robert Palmer, Jennifer Holiday,
Chaka Khan, and Neil Diamond among other guests that appeared
on the show.
He is a member of The Ed Palermo Big Band that has been specializing
in performing the music of Frank Zappa. He is a member of The Mike
Longo New York State of the Art Jazz Ensemble, and The Gary Morgan
Pan Americana Big Band.
Ray is also involved in NYC theater work. He held the chair as the
house drummer at Radio City Music Hall for two years, then went on
to the Broadway productions of How to Succeed in Business Without
Really Trying, Damn Yankees, and The Will Rogers
Follies. He is currently the drummer for Mamma Mia.
Broadway gigs have introduced Ray to many of its stars, and he has toured
with Bernadette Peters, Betty Buckley, Tommy Tune, Joel Grey, Michael
Feinstein, Leslie Uggams, Shirley Bassey, James Naughton, and Jimmy
Webb.
